7:08pm meeting called to order, 7 people attending
Treasurer’s Report:
At the last meeting the balance was $811, checks were issued for yard sale flyers and the permit for the green space. The account received income from neighborhood association memberships and yard sale reservations bringing the new balance to $1002.83.
Add email addresses of new members to master email list.
Yard Sale:
The yard sale was considered very successful by all. Stella’s vendor friends would love to be involved in any future ones. We had 20 vendors and after expenses earned $100. Some people who live across 9th St expressed interest in being vendors.
A few suggestions/notes for next time:
parking only on one side of road for safety reasons
permit was issued under special circumstances since we used the event as a “fundraiser”
should be co-sponsored by city or TASCO to be held in a city park, but they will take part of the money
our green-space is called Franklin Heights Park
free advertising available on Bay News 9, Channel 10, and Fox 13
Church:
The neighborhood church has been bought and a new congregation will move in on 12/1. The atmosphere will be casual and non-denominational and has many young people involved.
Upcoming Pot Luck:
at Roberts Center
week/weekend? Friday Night?
Christmas caroling in neighborhood after the dinner?
create flyer with RSVP and to promote 2009 activities
bulk mailing rate available through KONA
have prizes
available dates: 12/4 and 12/11, too soon, not enough time
hold meeting and pot luck together (Jan 19) so we don’t have to rush for planning
distribute flyers in first week of Jan
Meetings:
need more meetings for planning so our upcoming events aren’t too rushed
meetings will be held on 3rd Tuesday of the month instead of 4th
Officers vs Board of Directors:
Our bylaws dictate what we are if we change, we’ll need to change bylaws in writing and for state non-profit status. It was decided that a board of directors would be better because all of the planning wouldn’t fall on one person’s shoulders. We could have the board of directors visit the neighbors as a group to promote the neighborhood. Neil will email the core group of members to see who would like to be involved.
How to unify the neighborhood?
welcome committee
neighborhood plant
Food Drive:
We usually hold the food drive at Bill Heller’s office during the holidays to create the Holiday Cheer baskets. We could try designating certain houses in the neighborhood where residents could bring food to donate, then bring to a shelter or food bank. Hold this event around Easter to help bring food at a different time of the year. Contact City Council members for help.
